Happy New Year!

Yep, it's that time again. Time for a giant celebration of a new beginning, or maybe it's just time for another reason to party?

Historically, we've set the New Year date as the official beginning of "New Things, New Thoughts, New Adventures and New Goals.  If you're looking for something to kick off your New Year, I have a New Suggestion! (Okay, we might be done with the "New" for a while. 😉 Oops, maybe one more ahead.)

New Adventures

How about an adventure that ended 2017 and opened 2018?  That's what I've managed to do when I stepped outside my comfort zone.  Not only did I step across the border of that zone once, I did it repeatedly.

Do you know where you can go if you push the upper limits of your comfort zone?  You can end up making an idea come to life. You can sponsor an art experiment.

And that's what "Inspired by the Masters - Cézanne" exhibition is all about. You can read the press release below.

The Particulars

The ArtistAngle Gallery is opening an exhibition featuring works inspired by the painting ‘Woman with a Coffee Pot’ by French Impressionist Paul Cezanne. The exhibition will open with an artist reception on January 6th from 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM.

The exhibit will display the works of fourteen local artists who were selected based on their genre and modality of art. Works will be on display from January 6th - February 17th. Patrons will have the opportunity to place silent bids for their favorite artworks from the exhibition.

Inspired by the Masters is a collaboration between the ArtistAngle Gallery and artist Rebecca LaChance of Rebecca LaChance Art & Photography. The idea behind the exhibit was for current artists of different genres to create a work of art inspired by a painting by one of the masters.

“I deliberately selected Cezanne and this painting because his works generate strong feelings among artists and viewers,” says Rebecca. ‘Woman with a Coffee Pot’ was said to be one of Cezanne's most monumental pieces.

LaChance also invited New York artist Adam Marelli to speak at the gallery on January 11th from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM. Marelli will be a leading a talk entitled “Becoming an Artist; The myths, half-truths, and convoluted road to being an artist.” He will share his own developmental experiences as well as the historical accounts of famous artists who failed multiple times before they succeeded. Tickets for Marelli’s talk are available for purchase on the ArtistAngle Gallery website under the Artists Talks tab.

“I absolutely love the idea of hosting this type of invitation to the artists and to the public.  It is a wonderful way to start the new year and an excellent lead for the five-month series on the teachings of Myron Barnstone** that follow in March,” says Jennifer Finley, gallery owner.

ArtistAngle Gallery is located on the east side of historic downtown Frederick on the corner of South Carroll and Commerce Streets. Once an old granary, the current gallery space is a masterpiece in itself. The gallery features work from local, regional and national artists. Exhibits rotate every 4 to 6 weeks and are normally scheduled up to one year in advance. Throughout the year the gallery hosts art and custom framing related demonstrations and lectures for artists and art lovers.

** (I regularly recommend the Barnstone DVDs for all artists. Myron was an exacting artist and teacher.)
