Yes, Rebecca LaChance Art & Photography is moving into a studio! My move into portraiture was the reason to open a studio. Of course, I have to credit the hero of the story - the Hubster.
Hubster as Hero
I have been very fortunate the Hubster has been fully on board with any adventure. Did I mention he often sees new openings where I may not? For two months, we drove past the "For Rent" sign in the window; for two months he said, "You should call that number. It won't hurt to just check it out." For two months I mumbled, "yeah, I should do that." (Remember when I wrote my list that included "open a studio"?)
I set a ridiculously low "bottom line" in my mind...the amount of rent I would be willing to pay.
(You do see that I was setting limits to prevent myself from moving forward, don't you? It's that Upper LImit Problem raising it's ugly head.)
I met with the landladies, assessed the space and immediately started having visions of where I would place equipment, etc. We talked about utilities, snow removal, heating - all the nitty-gritty stuff. And then, the magic words came forth, "We're looking for $XXX (insert my ridiculously low "bottom line" number).
Oooookay...I guess this is my space! I couldn't possibly say "no" when I've always primed myself to say "yes" as opportunity presents.
Official Studio opening in February
The refurbishing is coming along nicely and the studio will be ready for an official opening in February.
I'll keep you updated about its progress!
Expect the best. Anything else is an adventure.
